Our Innovations for Real-World Farming
SmartAG Systems and its sister company Farmscan AG have built their AGRITECHNICA presence around delivering solutions that work in real-world farming.
One example is the Roto-Fence Autonomous Fencing system, developed with Harper Adams University, Kidd Farm Machinery and supported by Innovate UK. Farmscan AG led the software and control system development, while Kidd engineered a sensor-equipped post driver for full automation. The result is a tractor-guided system that installs posts with centimetre-level accuracy, making rotational grazing easier, safer and more cost-effective. By reducing labour and increasing precision, it supports healthier soils and more resilient pastures, helping farms adapt to changing rainfall.
Our Wireless Calibration and ISOBUS Integration give farmers and OEMs a plug-and-play way to connect equipment and calibrate using a smartphone. This helps reduce downtime, improve application accuracy, cut fuel use and lower environmental impact.
A further example in Australia is the MPT.ag semi-autonomous air seeder project where we collaborated with farmer David Finlay and MPT.ag. SmartAG Systems applied ISOBUS expertise to enable real-time depth control using live soil sensing. Each of the 36 tines adjusts independently to optimise seed placement based on moisture levels. This supports more uniform emergence and helps manage the risks of variable soils and rainfall.
We also offer a scalable autonomy pathway, drawing on our work in projects such as the Hands-Free Farm in the UK. Our systems begin with RTK guidance and then expand to supervised autonomy. This means farms can introduce autonomous solutions without replacing their entire fleets. This approach offers a gradual path to precision farming, delivering immediate operational benefits while preparing for full autonomy in the future.
